Funchal-born surgeon, trained in Lisbon, practising in Monforte and known as an ear and throat specialist; he wrote a 1916 thesis on tetanus. As president of the Funchal council he spoke at public ceremonies in 1921–1922, including the Unknown Soldier ceremonies and the visit of the President of the Republic.
