Portuguese statesman and diplomat who called at Madeira in November 1820 and carried the governor's report on the island's calm to Lisbon. He headed the 1842 cabinet in which Atouguia was navy minister and witnessed Dr Luís Henriques's first operation using chloroform in Funchal; he was the father of the Marquês de Cezimbra.
