Vinhático (Persea indica)

A tree of the Lauraceae family, reaching 10 to 25 meters in height, with oblong or oblong-lanceolate leaves, light green or reddish, and small flowers, grouped in axillary panicles. It is found in forests and riverbank margins, but on the south coast, it does not thrive below 150 meters. It produces wood of a beautiful reddish color, bearing remarkable similarities to mahogany (Swietenia), widely used for furniture and various other works. The bark of the vinhatico is used for tanning.
