Acelga

A subspecies of Beta Vulgaris, cultivated and growing spontaneously in Madeira. It is native to Europe and has large leaves and greenish flowers, gathered in long spikes. The leaves of this Chenopodiaceae are used for purées and are part of the composition of herb broth.
