Barrete de padre
Description of the Barrete de padre red grape variety, grown near Funchal and on Porto Santo (as barrete de frade) for good table grapes.
Leaves medium-sized, glabrous on both surfaces, with 3–5 lobes, sometimes barely outlined, sometimes rather deep; terminal lobe sometimes divided into 3 secondary lobes; teeth generally short and broad, acute or obtuse; petiolar sinus slightly open or closed; bunches winged, usually large and loose; berries large or medium-sized, ellipsoid or ovate-subglobose, striped red, very firm. – It is grown around Funchal and also on Porto Santo (‘holy harbour’), where it is known by the name barrete de frade. It yields good table grapes.
