Tubarão (Carcharias microps)

A small-eyed shark recorded in Madeiran seas by Lowe; by 1921 the name tubarão for it was known only to Caniçal fishermen. Also includes a pointer for Tuckey.

A fish of the family Carcharidae, recorded in Madeiran seas. According to Richard Thomas Lowe, it is notable for the smallness of its eyes, and its teeth are weak in relation to its size; they are arranged in two rows, alike in both jaws. The specimens examined by that naturalist measured 8 feet and 5 or inches in length.

As Mr Adolfo César de Noronha informs us, the name tubarão given to the species in question is known today only to the fishermen of Caniçal (1921). Tuckey (T. K.). See Scientific expeditions, on page 410 of volume I of this Elucidário.
