Vernacular name for many trifoliate legumes of the genera Trifolium, Ononis, Medicago and Melilotus, several of which are good livestock fodder.
This name is used for a large number of legumes with trifoliate leaves, belonging not only to the genus Trifolium but also to the genera Ononis, Medicago and Melilotus. Trifolium repens, T. maritimum, T. pratense, T. incarnatum, T. agrarium, Medicago lupulina, Melilotus indica, etc., etc., are plants very well suited to feeding livestock.
