Teixeira (Canon Feliciano João)

Original title: Teixeira (Cónego Feliciano João)

Feliciano João Teixeira (1843–1896) was a canon of Funchal Cathedral, a seminary teacher and a deputy for Madeira in parliament. He later moved to Évora Cathedral, where he died.

He was born in the parish (freguesia) of Ponta do Sol (‘point of the sun’) on 2 January 1843, and was the brother of Dr João Augusto Teixeira and Dr Nuno Silvestre Teixeira, whom we have dealt with in this Elucidário. He was a canon of Funchal Cathedral (the Sé) (Sé do Funchal) and a teacher at the seminary (Seminário), and in this city he carried out various public-service assignments. He represented Madeira in Parliament in the legislative sessions of 1880 to 1881 and of 1887 to 1889. Transferred to the archiepiscopal Cathedral of Évora, he died in that city on 2 May 1896. His mortal remains lie in the cemetery of the parish of Ponta do Sol.
