Syndic of the Senate

The síndico was a law-trained municipal officer who defended the Câmara's interests in court. In the late 18th and early 19th centuries he often stood in for the council clerk.
He had to be a law graduate, and his duty was to defend the interests of the Council in the courts. In the late 18th and early 19th centuries he often stood in for the clerk of the Council (escrivão da Câmara) when the latter was unavailable, drawing up and signing the minutes of the council sessions.
Chronology
- The síndico of the Funchal senate often replaced the council clerk, drafting and signing the minutes.
