Shackleton (Ernest)

The British polar explorer Ernest Shackleton called at Madeira in October 1921 aboard the Quest on his way to the Antarctic, shortly before his death in 1922.

This well-known English explorer was in Madeira from 16 to 19 October 1921, on his way to the Antarctic regions aboard the Quest. He died at the age of 47 on 5 January 1922, while his ship was off the island of South Georgia.
