Knotgrass (Polygonum aviculare), a common plant of paths and waste ground in Madeira, whose infusion is used as a diuretic and against rheumatism.

A plant of the family Polygonaceae, with leaves that are generally lanceolate, sometimes wavy and crinkled, and small pink or white flowers arranged in clusters. It is common along paths and on uncultivated ground. An infusion of this plant is diuretic and is used in the treatment of rheumatism.
