São Pedro (Baron of)

Original title: São Pedro (Barão de)

Supplementary note on a Madeiran-born holder of the São Pedro barony, adding that he wrote a pamphlet on alcohol in surgery and recording his family ties, including his daughter's charitable work in Funchal.

To what we said about this fellow Madeiran of ours on page 261 of volume I of this work, it should be added that he wrote a pamphlet entitled Do álcool e dos compostos alcoólicos em cirurgia. He was the son-in-law of the 1st Baron of São Pedro (volume III, page 27) and the father of Dona Josefina de Castelo Branco Ribeiro da Cunha. As the wife of the civil governor José Ribeiro da Cunha, she rendered notable services to the destitute in this city, and her portrait is kept in the meeting room of the Administrative Committee (Comissão Administrativa) of the Misericórdia (Holy House of Mercy, a lay charitable brotherhood) of Funchal (1921).
