Requeme (Sebastes kuhlii)

The requeme (Sebastes kuhlii) is a fish of the gurnard group taken at depths of 100 to 250 fathoms off Madeira. It is known by local names in Câmara de Lobos and Porto Santo and is valued for its pleasant flesh.

A fish of the gurnard family (Triglidae), caught at depths ranging from 100 to 250 braças (fathoms). In Câmara de Lobos (‘seals’ den’) it is known as chapado and on Porto Santo (‘holy harbour’) as vermelho. It is not a rare species and lives in rocky places. Its flesh has a pleasant flavour.
