Wood pigeon (Columba palumbus)

Original title: Pombo (Columba palumbus)

The wood pigeon of Madeira's mountains, perhaps the rarest breeding pigeon on the island, also called pombo branco or pombo claro.

A columbid bird that lives in the mountains of Madeira. It builds its nests beneath the trees and raises two young in each brood. It is perhaps the rarest of the pigeon species that nest in Madeira, and because of its colour it is also known as pombo branco and pombo claro.

There is a variety distinguished by plumage and feet darker than in the typical form of the species.
