Original title: Perdigão (Dr. Jacinto António)
Jacinto António Perdigão, district secretary-general who became civil governor of Funchal in 1863 and was a noted jurist and author of a remarkable 1864 report.
He was serving here as secretary-general of the district when, by decree of 1 July 1863, he was appointed substantive civil governor, a post he had already held on an interim basis. He took office on the 17th of that month and year.
Among the reports he wrote as civil governor, the one he presented to the District General Council (Junta Geral) at its ordinary session of 1864 stands out: a truly remarkable piece of work that can still be read with profit today. Jacinto Perdigão was a distinguished jurist and published several works of value.
