Penfold (Jane Wallas)

English author of an illustrated 1845 book on Madeira's flowers, fruits and ferns, probably related to the Funchal merchant William Penfold.

Works: Madeira-flowers, fruits and ferns–a selection of the botanical productions of that Islands, foreign and indigenous, drawn and coloured from nature; London, 1845.

In 1803 the English merchant Guilherme Penfold was living in Funchal, and in 1813 the firm of Penfold & Veitch existed here. It may be supposed that Jane Penfold was a relative of this merchant, who lived at the Quinta da Achada.
