Wild ducks

Wild ducks: migratory waterfowl reaching Madeira and Porto Santo mostly in winter, with a list of the species recorded.

Under this name are known in Madeira and Porto Santo (‘holy harbour’) a number of web-footed birds that arrive here, chiefly in winter and more or less regularly. They are: anas boscas, Mareca penelope, Nettion crecca, Dafila acuta, Marmaronetta angustirostris, Nyroca ferina and Oedemia nigra.
