Passos (António Romão dos)
Biography of a Ribeira Brava-born agronomist who worked in Lisbon and wrote eulogies of agricultural scientists.
He was born in Ribeira Brava (‘wild river’) on 28 February 1866, but went to Portugal at a tender age, where he completed his secondary studies and attended the General Institute of Agriculture (Instituto Geral de Agricultura). For many years he has been agronomist to the Companhia Geral de Crédito Predial Português. He published the Elogio do Conselheiro João Inacio Ferreira Lapa, delivered at the solemn session of 20 May 1905 of the Sociedade de Sciencias Agronomicas de Portugal, and we are told that he also brought out a biography of the learned botanist and agronomist Dom António Xavier Pereira Coutinho (1921).
