Orquigny (João José de)

French physician and naturalist sent to Madeira in 1789 by Queen Maria I to study the island's medicinal flora, apparently without results.

A French physician and naturalist who came to Madeira in 1789, commissioned by the government of Maria I to study the island’s flora and its therapeutic value. Although he lived here for some years, the services he rendered to science were, it seems, nil. See Freemasonry (Maçonaria).
