Map: Madeira (3)

In the parish (freguesia) of São Pedro (‘St Peter’), at the locality (sítio) to which it gave its name, Diogo da Costa de Quintal built a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows (Nossa Senhora das Angústias) in 1662. There stands the quinta (country estate) of Nossa Senhora das Angústias, better known as the Quinta Lambert, which has a chapel of this dedication, perhaps a rebuilding of the old chapel that existed at that locality. Princess Maria Amélia lived at this quinta and died there on 4 February 1853.
