Short family entry on the Moura Rolim surname in Madeira, citing Álvaro de Azevedo's notes to the Saudades: António de Moura Rolim was an early benefactor of the Misericórdia of Funchal, and João de Moura Rolim founded the chapel of the Lord in the original church of Santa Maria Maior.
António de Moura Rolim, says Dr Álvaro de Azevedo on p. 527 of the Saudades, is named in the roll of benefactors of the Holy House of Mercy (Misericórdia) of Funchal, soon after its foundation. The same work also records, on p. 851, that João de Moura Rolim founded the chantry (capela) of the Lord in the original church of Santa Maria Maior (St Mary Major), where he had his tomb with this epitaph: ‘Tomb of João de Moura Rolim, founder of this chantry of the Most Holy Sacrament – 727.’
