Mexico (Empress of)

Original title: México (Imperatriz do)

Empress Carlota of Mexico stayed in Madeira in 1859–60 and called again in 1864 with Emperor Maximilian; she reportedly wrote a work titled 'A Winter in Madeira'.

Empress Carlota was in Madeira with her husband, Emperor Maximilian, in April 1864, on her way to Mexico aboard the Novara. Some years earlier she had spent some time on this island, arriving in December 1859 in the company of her husband.

According to Cesare Cantù in Ultimos trinta anos, Empress Carlota wrote a work entitled Um inverno na Madeira (‘A Winter in Madeira’).
