Mesquita (family)
Original title: Mesquita
Madeiran family surname, traced to Pedro Ferreira de Mesquita of Ponta do Sol and António de Mesquita of Majorca.
This family surname derives from Pedro Ferreira de Mesquita, who was living at Ponta do Sol (‘point of the sun’) in 1662 and founded there the chapel of Nossa Senhora dos Milagres (Our Lady of Miracles), and from a certain António de Mesquita, a native of Majorca, who for reasons unknown to us came to this island.
