The blackbird is a native bird of Madeira nesting in small trees and banana plants; it visits Porto Santo but does not breed there.

A bird of the thrush family (Turdidae), native to Madeira, which builds its nests in small trees, banana plants, etc. Laying generally takes place in May and June. It has been found on Porto Santo (‘holy harbour’), but does not breed on that island. It is the males that are noted for their strong and pleasant song. The blackbird sometimes shows white patches.
