Maçarico

Maçarico is the Madeiran name for the whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus), while maçarico real is the curlew (N. arquatus). Both birds occur on Madeira's sea cliffs.

Madeirans know Numenius phaeopus by this name and N. arquatus by that of maçarico real. These species, which belong to the family Charadriidae and the subfamily Totaninae, appear on the sea cliffs of Madeira.
