British visitor who in 1845 gave six acclaimed English-language lectures on dramatic poetry in Funchal.
A distinguished British subject who visited this island in 1845. In Funchal he gave, in English, a series of six lectures on dramatic poetry, which caused a real sensation through their eloquence, brilliance of form and thorough knowledge of the subject. They are said to have been published in England, with several references to the author’s stay in Madeira.
