W. Hartwig was an ornithologist who wrote on the birds of Madeira in journals in the 1890s.
Die Vogel Madeira's (Cab. Journ. f. Ornith, 1896, pp. 452–485). The Vienna journal Ornis contains a note on some species of birds published by Hartwig, and the already cited journal Cab. Journ. fur Ornith. for the year 1893 contains an addendum to the list of the birds of the archipelago.
