Guedes (Vasco)

Vasco Guedes de Carvalho e Meneses, military commander of Madeira, was appointed civil governor of the Funchal district in 1884; he had earlier been governor-general of Angola.

Vasco Guedes de Carvalho e Meneses, who was then military commander of Madeira, was appointed civil governor of this district by decree of 14 August 1884, and took office on the 18th of the same month.

He had been governor-general of Angola. To defend himself against the accusations made against him while he was administering that overseas possession, he published in Funchal in 1882 a pamphlet entitled Apontamentos para a Historia de Angola. He died in April 1915.
