Grande (Eduardo)

Agronomist from Portalegre, later secretary-general of Funchal's civil government, whose 1865 report describes Madeiran agriculture.

He was a native of Portalegre and served as agronomist attached to the Civil Government of the district of Funchal (Distrito do Funchal), later becoming secretary-general of the same Civil Government. He was also a member of the Administrative Committee (Comissão Administrativa) of the Holy House of Mercy (Santa Casa da Misericórdia). He wrote a report that was presented to the board of the former Agricultural Society of Funchal and published in 1865. Although it has some shortcomings, this report contains a good deal of curious information on the state of agriculture in Madeira at the time of its publication. Eduardo Grande died in Lisbon around 1881.
