British Factory

The British Factory, an association of British merchants in Madeira founded before 1774 and dissolved at the end of 1838, which kept a ward for Britons in the Misericórdia hospital.
It was founded before 1774 and dissolved on 31 December 1838. It maintained a special ward for the English in the Hospital of the Holy House (Santa Casa, the Misericórdia), and while it existed it rendered various other services to the British colony on this island.
