Bracken, a very common fern in Madeira and on non-calcareous ground in Porto Santo, reaching 2 metres near Pico Ruivo; it is used as manure and animal bedding.

A fern that is very common in Madeira and also grows in the non-calcareous parts of the island of Porto Santo (‘holy harbour’). Near Pico Ruivo (‘russet peak’) it can reach 2 metres in height.

Bracken is used as manure and as bedding for animals.
