Eugénie (Empress)

Original title: Eugenia (Imperatriz)

Notes the call at Madeira of Empress Eugénie, widow of Napoleon III, on 30 March 1880, en route to the site of her son's death in South Africa.

Empress Eugénie, widow of Napoleon III, called at Madeira aboard the English steamer German on 30 March 1880. She was following the same route as her son, the Prince Imperial, who died in South Africa in the war against the Zulus, all the way to the very spot where he met his death. The prince had landed in Funchal on 4 March 1879, while passing through our port aboard the English steamer Danube.
