Encumeada

Explains the Madeiran toponymic term 'encumeada', a summit or ridge top commanding wide views; the best known is the Encumeada de São Vicente.

In Madeira this noun is used only in place names, where it designates the summit of certain mountains and heights from which wide horizons open up all around the observer. The best known is the so-called Encumeada de São Vicente (‘São Vicente ridge pass’).
