Cortado

A locality between Santana and Faial, noted for its fine views over Faial and the Penha de Águia and for its green, wooded road.

Map: Madeira (4)

A locality between Santana and Faial, from which there are superb views over the latter parish (freguesia) and the Penha de Águia. Anyone who climbs the steep slope leading to Cortado (‘cut’) and passes through the cutting or gap at its top has the impression of entering a quinta (country estate), so green and wooded are the sides of the road that leads from there to Santana.
