Black slickhead (Alepocephalus rostratus)

Deep-sea black slickhead fish occasionally caught on black scabbardfish lines in Madeira but not eaten.

A fish of the great depths, of the family

Alepocephalidae, black in colour with large, loosely attached scales, caught from time to time in Madeiran waters. It takes the hook on black scabbardfish lines, and although its flesh is very white and its appearance pleasant, it is not used as food.
