Brown (Robert)

Original title: Brown (Roberto)

Robert Brown (1773–1858), the Scottish-born British botanist, visited Madeira briefly in 1802 and compiled a list of Madeiran plants published in Von Buch's work of 1825.

A distinguished English botanist, born in Montrose in 1773 and died in London in 1858. He was in Madeira from 4 to 7 August 1802 and later compiled a list of Madeiran plants, which was included in the work by Von Buch entitled Physicalische Beschreibung der Canarischen Inseln (Berlin, 1825). This list is based chiefly on the herbaria and manuscripts of Francis Masson, Joseph Banks and Dr Daniel Solander, for Robert Brown collected few plants during his short stay on this island.
