Bomboteiro

Explains 'bomboteiro', the Madeiran name for hawkers who board steamers in Funchal harbour to sell photographs, postcards and local goods.

This is the name given in Madeira to a person who goes aboard the steamers calling at the Port of Funchal (Porto do Funchal) to sell photographs, postcards and various articles produced or made on the island. According to Cândido de Figueiredo, the word derives from the English bumboat.
