Bignonia

Name used in Madeira for several ornamental climbing species of Bignonia and Tecoma grown on walls and belvederes.

In Madeira this name is given to several species of the genera Bignonia and Tecoma, among which we shall mention the following:

  • Tecoma australis and T. jasminoides, from Australia
  • T. radicans, from North America
  • T. capensis, from the Cape of Good Hope
  • Bignonia venusta and B. chamberlaynii, from Brazil
  • B. charere, from Guiana
  • and B. lindley, from Buenos Aires.

All these species are used to cover walls, belvederes, etc.
