Bicho conta

The bicho conta is a woodlouse of the genus Armadillidium that rolls into a ball when touched; it is very common in Madeira.

A small crustacean of the order Isopoda and the genus Armadillium, living under stones and in shady places. It feeds on decaying plant and animal matter, and when touched it rolls up into the shape of a small ball or bead (conta). It is very common in Madeira.
