Barreiro (spring)

Original title: Barreiro (Fonte do)

A small spring near the foot of Pico Ruivo at about 1,870 metres, believed by the Elucidário to be the highest spring in Madeira, with clear, cold water but little flow in summer.

Map: Madeira (2)

A small spring near the foot of Pico Ruivo (‘russet peak’), at about 1870 metres above sea level. In summer it yields very little water. We believe there is no other spring in Madeira situated as high as that of Barreiro. Its water, which we had occasion to drink in the months of July and August, is clear and very cold.
