Brazilian politician and journalist Rui Barbosa, who stopped briefly in Madeira on 19 December 1907 and was given a luncheon at the Infante Palace Hotel.
This distinguished Brazilian politician and journalist was in Madeira on 19 December 1907. Senhor António Eusébio dos Santos, then commercial agent of the United States of Brazil, gave a luncheon for him at the Infante Palace Hotel, which was also attended by the politician’s wife and children, the civil governor, the Secretary General and the Military Commander. Rui Barbosa left for Brazil that same day aboard the Araguaya.
