Atum de cacho (surface-shoaling tuna)
Original title: Atum de Cacho
Explains the fishermen's expression for tuna appearing in large surface shoals, especially young bigeye tuna in spring.
The expression is used of any species of tuna that appears in large shoals at the surface of the sea. It is applied in particular to the bigeye and the albacore (Thunnus alalunga; Portuguese atum voador), but above all to young bigeye, which pass through Madeiran waters in greatest numbers in the spring months.
