Colonel and aide-de-camp to the Governor and Captain-General of Madeira, José Lúcio Travassos Valdez, when the latter took refuge aboard the warship corvette Alligator. He was indicted in his absence by the special judicial commission (alçada) that came to Madeira in 1828.
