Largo do Visconde do Ribeiro Real, Funchal
The bishop's palace in Funchal was built under the direction of D. Frei João do Nascimento between 1748 and 1751, and its main entrance faces the Largo do Visconde do Ribeiro Real. A 17th-century fire at the site destroyed the diocesan archive. The palace holds Netherlandish paintings, including a St Jerome, and an original parchment bull once hung framed there; it is classified, together with its chapel, as of public interest.
