Lourenço Marques

Mozambique · Africa

Lourenço Marques is a city and district in Mozambique, an East African destination of Madeiran emigrants in 1889–90, where many Madeiran footballers played. Several Madeirans served, wrote about or died there: João de Andrade and Dr. António Aurélio da Costa Ferreira died there, César Pereira arrived for colonial service in 1897, and Aires de Ornelas administered the district.
