Forte do Porto Novo is a fort on Madeira above the Porto Novo stream, begun in 1827 by Governor Travassos Valdez. It was unfinished when the Miguelists took the island in 1828, and an ammunition explosion there ended resistance. D. Álvaro da Costa later completed it.
