The Prince of Oldenburg, Nicolau Frederico Augusto, was a Russian lieutenant-general and one of the royal guests who lived at the Quinta Vigia. He stayed in Madeira in 1884–1885 and was known in Funchal for his lavish lifestyle, parties and philanthropy.
