D. Manuel Martins Manso was the 24th bishop of Funchal from 1850 to 1858. He is remembered for his prudence and gentleness, and he was later transferred to Guarda. During his episcopate he presided at the laying of the foundation stone of the Hospício da Princesa D. Maria Amélia in 1856 and attended the blessing of the new church of Santo António da Serra in 1857.
