D. Fr. Jorge de Lemos was a Dominican friar and the fourth bishop of Funchal (1558–1569), the first bishop to reside in person in the diocese. He reformed clerical abuses, reorganised the cathedral service and music, and oversaw the division of Funchal into parishes.
