Funchal-born priest (1792–1872) who became dean of Funchal Cathedral, bishop-elect of Castelo Branco, governor of the dioceses of Funchal and Angra, deputy for Madeira and peer of the realm. A Liberal, he fled the Miguelist occupation in 1828 aboard the Alligator and returned to Porto Santo with the constitutionalists in 1832.
